Iowa weather: Extreme heat, severe storms possible this week
Court begins today in central Iowa. We've had some hot weather, but over the next few days, ZAIN, we're going to be turning to weather impact days, right? Yes, yes, we will work harder in the next few days. Eric, today, we're already warming up a little faster than yesterday. and yesterday. Before we hit this temperature, we were at about 91 degrees. The evening's 83-degree storm hit midday, with dew points above 70 degrees in the metropolitan area. Combine the two and you currently have a heat index of 88 degrees. That was in Des Moines. Particularly in southern and southwestern Iowa, it's already the mid-90s. 96 degrees in Creston feels like 94 degrees in the Atlantic, mostly 80 degrees. The remnants of the storm to the north. There are just some remaining clouds in the east-central part of the state. Heading to our west. At this moment, not much is happening on the plains, but when we head there later tonight, there will be more unrest sweeping the country from west to east. More storms will develop over the Dakotas and Nebraska, some of which may move into Iowa. As we head in later tonight, we'll be keeping an eye on at least the possibility of stronger storms over the next few days. The risk for severe storms is Category 2 during the day tomorrow across north-central to eastern Iowa. This is how storms form. This is a question mark. There might be some wind, but also some storms. If they can just keep going. Then Wednesday night into Wednesday night, covering mostly northwest Iowa with some storms coming from the Dakotas and southwestern Minnesota. Of course, there are still hot topics to discuss. Let's move on to the rest of the day. Numbers on the map. These will be your heat index values. How does it actually feel, not nearly 100 degrees in Des Moines in the afternoon in southern Iowa, only 100 degrees. That's why heat warnings will be in effect elsewhere with lows in the 90s. Stay tuned for our schedule later tonight. Then several storms appeared over the plains. Try moving to northwest Iowa. After dark, here. It's questionable how many people came all the way and then watched us walk into the early hours of tomorrow morning. Pay attention to the top of the screen. There are storms in southwestern Minnesota. There are indications that some of them survived and then headed to north-central Iowa until tomorrow morning. This particular version of “The Hourly” doesn't quite live up to that, but I'm just telling you, there's definitely potential. This storm will only produce a few storms in the northeastern part of the state through mid-tomorrow. However, it's definitely possible that more storms will develop here. North, central, and then into eastern Iowa. That's why there's at least a risk of severe weather tomorrow. Otherwise, be aware that heat index values will be in the high 90s by noon. Feels like a low person. Hundreds of people flocked to Highway 30 and possibly Highway 20 across the greater state in the afternoon. It will all depend on if and where we can launch some storms. Often, our short-term weather models are not the best at predicting overnight storms and whether they will persist into the day, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, it's all about the heat. High temperatures on Wednesday afternoon will be 105 to 110. The actual high temperature is about 96 degrees. Then we'll enter August in the second half of this week. The numbers are down just a little, but temperatures will generally remain at or above normal for the rest of the week. Last chance for rain here will be unstable STO
