German online national daily Die Welt reported on the decline in electric vehicle sales among private consumers in the first half of 2024, A significant decrease of 47% compared to the same period last year.
The sharp drop is a major setback for the country's rush to become “carbon neutral”.

“Germans are increasingly skeptical of electric cars. According to Le Monde, the latest data from car dealers show that refusal to buy is escalating.
Private customers in particular reject electric cars. Sales of hybrid vehicles also fell sharply, with sales plunging 37% during the same period.
“Dealers do not expect any improvement in the situation in the second half of the year,” Le Monde reported. “Among the car dealers surveyed, 91% of people believe that the status of pure electric vehicle orders from private customers throughout the year is “poor” or “very poor.”
Meanwhile, sales of gasoline and diesel engine cars grew by 24% and 20% respectively.
Buyers are put off by poor national charging infrastructure, range limitations and high costs.
