The Rajasthan government has made it mandatory for every student in a government school to plant five trees.

To celebrate Hariyali Teej, the Rajasthan government on Wednesday officially launched the 'Maha Vriksharopan Abhiyan', a massive tree planting drive aimed at enhancing greenery across the region. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma launched the drive, setting an ambitious target of planting over 20 million trees across the state. The initiative extends to educational institutions, with a special focus on inculcating environmental awareness among students from an early age.

The Rajasthan government has made it mandatory for every student in a government school to plant five trees. The trees planted will be geo-tagged and students’ details recorded for accountability. It is noteworthy that as per the education department order, every student will get extra marks for every tree that survives till the end of the academic session.

In addition to students, teachers will also be evaluated under the program. Teachers who successfully plant and maintain trees for a year will receive points based on the number of trees they plant. The policy is intended to encourage students and educators to actively participate in the activity.

Tree planting activities are not limited to schools. Local government at all levels, including Panchayat workers, Anganwadi workers, MNREGA workers, Sarpanchs, Gram Sevaks and Patwaris, are involved in planting and marking trees at the Panchayat level. The Panchayat is tasked with the ongoing maintenance of these plants and special officers are appointed to oversee their maintenance.
